Sport Fishing
Sport fishing is what put the Baja's Sea of Cortez and the East Cape on the map and Casa Cardondal is right in the heart of the action. With Mino, your charter captain, will have the boat ready to board each morning right in front of the Casa. Fishing could not be easier or better! All of the photos in the photo gallery are fish caught with Mino from the Casa's panga.

The variety of sport fish available include:

| • | Yellowfin Tuna | |
| • | Snapper | |
| • | Grouper | |
| • | Cabrilla | |

One of the best things about fishing the East Cape is not only the variety of game fish species, but the diversity of techniques used to catch them. Trolling teasers and live or dead baits offshore yields billfish, tuna, dorado and wahoo.
Deep dropping on rocky structures gives you the chance to battle brutes like Cubera Snapper, Grouper and Yellowtail. Working surface lures and plugs delivers a mixed bag of Dorado, Tuna, Jack Cravelle and Roosterfish. Fly fisherman will find the experience of sight casting to tease Billfish, Dorado or Tuna irresistible. Surf casting often ends up with a Roosterfish battle you won't soon forget. Imagine hooking a Roosterfish from a stand-up paddle board!
The town of El Cardonal sponsors a fishing tournament in late May each year which brings our small town alive with activity. Mino won this tournament in 2005 with a guest at the Casa. Be sure to let Mino know you want to go fishing the day before so he can make sure the boat is full of gas and ready to go at dawn.
For those that prefer an eco-tour of the Sea of Cortes, Mino can find for your viewing pleasure the area's spectacular marine life. He has an incredible eye for spotting everything that is in or on the water. The marine life you might see includes:
| • | Dolphin | ![]() |
| • | Orcas | |
| • | Mobula Rays | |
| • | Humpback Whales | |
| • | Grey Wales | |
| • | Sperm Whales | |
| • | Turtles |
Consider taking the boat on a day trip to the protected Isla Cerralvo to see the turtles nests and vast shell beaches. Or snorkeling and diving at the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. The Park's Reef has eight fingers of hard coral reef, providing a safe haven for many of the 800 species of marine animals found throughout the Sea of Cortez.
Other possible excursions with the boat include a short 30 minute trip north to Bahia los Sueños for lunch or about a 40 mile run to the resort of Las Cruces. Mino and the panga are at your service!
