Around the Casa
Shuffleboard, Wade, Walk, Relax, . . . Do Nothing at All!

imageThe Casa features dramatically open living space with spectacular views of the living sea. It is designed to merge outdoor living and dining space with the indoor living space. The center of outdoor living is under the Casa's expansive palapa.  Made in the traditional fashion with dried and woven palm trees and supported by naturally architectural columns of mantapolo wood imported from the mainland. It is a great place to sit and relax and watch the whales swim by.  The palapa has a sunken dining pit which can seat a small  crowd.

The Casa has a great pool with a shallow approach on the home side. This makes the pool a great place to park a beach chair or wade with younger children.  The deep side of the pool is excellent for cooling off on a warm day.   The pool is not big enough to swim laps but for those interested in swimming laps, we feature unquestionably the world's largest lap pool about 100 yards to the east.

Los Barilles AreaThe Jacuzzi is always a draw in the mornings and evenings.  Just let Mino know that you want to use the Jacuzzi and he will make sure the heat is turned on.  It takes about 30 minutes to heat the Jacuzzi and it is a great place to brag about the day's catch or your shuffleboard prowess.

How to Play Shuffleboard
by Mike Hall

Shuffleboard at the Casa

In shuffleboard, the player uses a stick (tang), to push disks (biscuits), placing the disk within the scoring zone at the far end of the court (sending the biscuit). If the biscuit lands completely within the small triangular tip zone without touching any part of the borders, it is worth ten points; completely within the trapezoidal second tier of the triangle, it is worth eight points; and completely within the trapezoidal third tier of the triangle, seven points. If the biscuit lands in the large, rearmost and also trapezoidal '10 Off' section, it costs minus ten points.

Shuffleboard is played in matches of ten frames (a frame is both players or teams taking their turns). The basic strategy involves deflecting the opposition's biscuits out of zones with a positive value, and increasing one's own points by landing disks into areas of a high point value. A note of caution, youth is not an advantage in this game.
